Volunteer Intern Michele prepares coot to go. Coot made a stab at Michele’s eyes but Michele was prepared as usual, and was wearing eye protection.
Phil takes coot to the water’s edge…
…and coot is off like a shot, pitter-pattering along the surface of the water before disappearing from sight!
Although babies are still arriving to rehab, including a nest with 3 teeny tiny chickadees and on the same day came a tiny baby dove, this is the time of year we plan and conduct releases, typically thru’ mid-October. With about 60 releases pending and critters coming to rehab for care daily, we’re still pretty busy around here! And a big THANK YOU to Cici of CoBirds and Gail for helping us find the ideal release location for the coot.
